Favorite Thing about TUSDM/Why you chose Tufts: I chose TUSDM originally for its reputation of producing dentists with excellent hand skills. After joining the class of 2023, I was pleasantly surprised by the camaraderie not only within our class, but the whole school in general.
Fun Fact About yourself/Things involved in outside of School: Volunteer locally in free clinics with my mentor, and have been on two international mission trips to Zambia and Guatemala. In my free time I enjoy playing pick-up soccer games with friends.

Favorite thing(s) about Tufts and/or Boston? You’ll always hear TUSDM students talking about the richness of diversity in our classes and that’s because it truly is one of the most beautiful things about our school! I feel lucky to be surrounded by fellow peers and faculty that take you as you are, but are there because they want to see you grow to be even better. Through every interaction I’ve had at school thus far, no matter how brief, I always leave feeling that my cup is a little more full.
Fun Fact(s) about yourself and/or hobbies? I love a good workout – spin, yoga, HIIT, and strength training! If I’m not super sweaty after (is that TMI, I don’t know), it wasn’t worth it. It’s always so fun seeing fellow classmates at the gym, too!
Pre-COVID, I sang in my church choir and played the clarinet for ten years! And when I’m REALLY free, I find time to open a book to read or even write if I’m feeling inspired.

Favorite thing(s) about Tufts and/or Boston?
A few things that stand out to me about Tufts is the genuine diversity, promotion of mind-body wellness practices and the commitment to global leadership in oral health. My favorite thing about Boston is that it's such a walkable city. I love going for walks during my study breaks. Whenever I take off from either the school or library, it feels like an adventure every time and I always find myself discovering something new.
Fun Fact(s) about yourself and/or hobbies?
Fun Fact about me is that I studied abroad in Spain for a semester to become fluent in Spanish. I grew up with a Spanish last name due to my Cuban roots but never spoke the language, so I made it my duty to learn and fully embrace my identity. Speaking of identity, I'm a TRUE southerner. I lived in Tennessee, Alabama and Mississippi prior to New England. As for hobbies, I absolutely love to travel. You can always catch me on the next flight out somewhere or planning a trip for sure!!

Favorite Thing about TUSDM/Why you chose Tufts:! I've never lived in a metropolis like Boston, so I loved the idea of the new challenge and experience. Once I stepped into Tufts, positive vibes radiated from everyone I came in contact with and those vibes have stuck with me ever since. Not to mention the support from classmates, faculty and administration is unreal. Plus I love a good weekly lunch and learn, that's the cherry on top!
Fun Fact About yourself/Things involved in outside of School: Outside of school, I love to dance! I've been member of a West African dance company after college, danced in church and even ballet and tap as a young girl. Fun fact: To challenge myself in college I joined a competitive contemporary dance team where I had to learn new technical moves. We went to competitions……we lost! But my facial expressions and the fluidity of my hand movements were on Point! #DentalStudent #DentalLife #TUSDM …

Favorite thing(s) about Tufts and/or Boston? Tufts is located in a city that has a rich history with so many sights to see and things to do that’s just a train ride away. While I haven’t explored too much of Boston yet, I look forward to the warmer days and soaking up the sun in the Commons.
Fun Fact(s) about yourself and/or hobbies? When I'm not studying, you’ll most likely find me in the kitchen baking up a storm.

Favorite Thing about TUSDM/Why you chose Tufts: The sense of community is incredible. Our class is very supportive and everyone’s voice is heard and appreciated. I picked Tufts to get a world class education, while making lasting friendships and connections throughout my time. Have absolutely loved my experience so far!
Fun Fact About yourself/Things involved in outside of School: From grades K-12 I went to school abroad (Qatar and Japan) since my dad's job took us all over the world. In my free time, I enjoy watching and playing sports with friends, going on walks around Boston, and just spending time with friends and family.

Favorite thing(s) about Tufts and/or Boston? My favorite thing about Tufts is that we have such a diverse class. There are so many unique things about my classmates (wide age range, different cultures, kids/no kids, previous careers, military experience, wealthy/not wealthy, etc.) and I’m happy that Tufts believes in bringing EVERYONE together. Some dental schools will claim that they are looking for diversity, but when you look at the demographics of their recently accepted students, they didn’t really put their money where their mouth was. Also, Boston is cool because I always see dogs outside and I can get pho almost anywhere in the city.
Fun Fact(s) about yourself and/or hobbies? Every December my friends and I get together for an Annual *Britmas* Celebration. It’s like Christmas, but the entire party is centered around Britney Spears and we celebrate her by wearing a themed “BritFit”, play some Britney-themed trivia, listen to her music, exchange gifts with another “Britney” at the party, and most importantly no one is allowed in without 2 bottles of champagne for mimosas. Because of Covid, our 4th Annual Britmas had to happen over zoom and it simply wasn’t the same. Here’s hoping that we get “lucky” this year and that our 5th Annual *Britmas* Celebration won’t be so “toxic”.
Dreaming of the days that we can hang out like this again!
Until then, we zoom!!!
Keep your eyes peeled for our next zoom meeting coming to your inboxes soon, and your board will get back to planning future activities for when we are allowed to “hang”!!!

Favorite Thing about TUSDM/Why you chose Tufts: Location! Boston is a beautiful city! Also that students and faculty will do their best to make sure everyone succeeds and no one is left behind!
Fun Fact About yourself/Things involved in outside of School: I collect crystals and believe in their healing powers. I always use them during meditation. I also love fashion and being quarantined has allowed me to begin planning and designing a business casual line I hope to complete by next summer.

No case of the Mondays here! I was scrolling through my photos and found this gem! Even though I missed the Zoom (😫) it made my heart full that my beautiful friends from dental school still “met” and even did a cheers to me (🥲)! What a rough year it has been and still is. Favorite thing(s) about Tufts and/or Boston? I enjoy how much inspiration there is to draw from classmates, nature, & culture. I find encouragement to celebrate every day by challenging myself to continue to grow stronger in mind, body, & soul. 📚💪🏽🌱
One of my favorite things to do is to explore the city on foot, while taking pictures & listening to music! 🗺🎶
Fun Fact(s) about yourself and/or hobbies? When the weather is nice, I like to hammock along the Charles River and read/write poetry. ☀️🌴✍🏽 I like to read mystic poetry, as it’s interesting to see how others experience life and the universe. Kahlil Gibran is a favorite since he weaves words into a poetic tapestry that finds beauty in the entire process of what it means to be human – imperfectly, perfect. ✨

Favorite Thing about TUSDM/Why you chose Tufts: I chose Tufts because of its emphasis on community health and how is teaches its students to care for patients across the lifespan. (Pediatrics to geriatrics and even pts with special needs) I also like how it offers the MPH and DMD combined degree program. That's definitely something i'm interested in. Since being at Tufts however, I love how my class is like a family. I feel like even though we are 200+ people we are all close.
Fun Fact About yourself/Things involved in outside of School: From Alaska, working on pilots license, love to travel, go camping, and try out different restaurants across Boston

It is National Women's Day and what a more deserving woman to be featured! I am proud to say that during my training at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, I was fortunate to have her as one of my Periodontal Instructors!
Dr. Esther Wilkins Gallagher was the first American dental hygienist and dentist to author the first comprehensive book on dental hygiene, the "Clinical Practice of the Dental Hygienist"! Her affectionate knickname was the "Godmother of Dental Hygiene". She even has a dental instrument named after her as well, the Wilkins/Tufts Explorer!
After graduating Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1948, she was recruited by the University of Washington to created a dental hygiene program at its new site. During her time there is where she was inspired to write her famous textbook, which continues to be in used today.
A quick Bio: Born December 9, 1916, in Chelmsford, Massachusetts and died at age 100 in New Hampshire
Her education was Simmons College 1938, Forsyth School of Dental Hygiene 1939 as a Registered Dental Hygienist, Tufts University School of Dental Medicine 1948 with her DMD and again in 1966 for Advanced Periodontal Certification. Married James Gallagher 1966 and were married until his death 1988.
This is just a quick synopsis of her life, as she will be remembered for the compassion she had for people, students and the love of Dentistry.

Favorite thing(s) about Tufts and/or Boston? My favorite thing about Tufts is the emphasis that the school places on wellness. Having a centered mind-body connection is key to performing good dental care. My favorite thing about Boston is the rich history embedded within the city. Growing up in Massachusetts, Boston was a popular field-trip destination. Now that I am living in the city, and walking everywhere I am able to truly appreciate the architecture and history sprinkled throughout the place I have always called "home".
Fun Fact(s) about yourself and/or hobbies? A fun fact about me is I ride horses! I am a competitive hunt seat equitation rider and show in the 3ft adult equitation. I was a member of the NCAA Division I Women's Equestrian Team at the University of Georgia from 2014-2018. During my time at UGA, we were 3x SEC Champions and 3x Runner-Up National Champions. When I am not in scrubs, you can find me at the barn with my competition horses, George and Morris and their miniature companion ponies I recently adopted, BooBoo and Nina Louise.
