Part of building a strong community is bringing awareness to mental health and de-stigmatizing mental health illness. There is no shame in asking for help when you need it, and in vulnerability there is strength. September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month- The Jed Foundation  and Active Minds are two of the nation’s premiere nonprofit organizations for access to mental health resources. It is okay to not be okay. You are not alone.

Below are Crisis Prevention Lifelines to ensure all people are heard, seen and supported:

The Blue Hills are located just minutes from Boston.  This reservation stretches over 7,000 acres across several towns. 

Although the bus is full, feel free to join us if you can arrange your own transportation.  The bus will leave from 145 Harrison Ave at 8:30 a.m.

Form your own squad (2-12 students) and add your name to the sign-up sheet by Thursday, September 30.  We will provide bagels, toppings, and coffee.  Stop by the designated location between 9:30 – 10:00am to pick up your bag of goodies along with coffee.  Find a spot in the Garden or Common to enjoy your breakfast, followed by a walk along the Charles River or the Back Bay!

This week’s community corner is highlighting scenes from the Progeria Race that took place last weekend 

 

75 members of the Tufts Health Sciences Community members participated in the 20 annual International Race for Progeria Foundation for Research. Together as Team Medicine for Meghan, we raised $2,600 for research.  Congratulations to George McMahon, M25 and to Cleo Davidowitz, MBS for winning in their age category – Nicely done!

Student Wellness Advising continues to be a friendly and accessible hub of support for all students on the Health Science Campus. The Wellness Advisor, Snaggs, works with all students to offer practical approaches to manage everyday stressors and challenges. Some of the services she provides include:

    • Confidential and private wellness advising
    • Triage and referral to psychiatrists and clinicians/therapists as needed
    • Works with students to find Primary Care Physician (PCP) in Greater Boston area

Student Wellness Advisory Committee:

The Student Wellness Advisory Committee (SWAC) acts as a liaison to the Student Wellness Advisor.  SWAC is comprised of a diverse group of student volunteers from all programs on the Boston Health Science Campus.
