The “COVID care kits” is a project to provide basic hygiene and self care products for individuals experiencing homelessness. These kits include bars of soap, hand sanitizers, deodorants, lotions, cleansing wash, detergent, tooth brushes and toothpastes. They also include an activity book and a pamphlet with general information on COVID-19. The goal of the project is to help support and prevent spread among the most vulnerable populations. We have already created 100 kits that were donated to Boston Healthcare for the Homeless and have been working closely with Dr. Jennifer Tan, a dermatologist at MGH. These kits were well received and so we are hoping to expand the number of kits and to serve both Portland and Boston’s homeless communities. It’s important to help those most vulnerable in these difficult times and we hope to encourage other students to reach out and help in their communities!
