Building student involvement, fostering civic engagement and enhancing community service to advance public health.

The D22 class spent their beautiful & sunny Saturday participating in the Mission Hill Health Fair, promoting oral health and educating the community about nutrition, tooth decay, and oral hygiene. Members of the class, including Romina Aznavaleh, Palak Patel, Rikesh Patel, Parin Patel, Erin Howard, Ankita Kesar, Sarina Shafiyan-Rad, Megann Lear, and Janki Shingala, engaged with the Roxbury community by sharing tips on proper dental hygiene and listening to the needs of the attendees of the fair.

Erin Howard (D22) reflects: “Volunteering at Mission Hill was a great experience. It was nice to see how many people genuinely care about learning more about their oral health. It felt good to have the chance to share my expertise and realize just how much we have learned in dental school so far.”

Janki Shingala (D22) adds: “It’s clear how big of an impact the Mission Hill Health Fair had on the members of the community, and I’m glad we had the opportunity to be representatives of not only TUSDM, but also the field of dentistry as a whole. We were touched by the heartwarming stories from community members about their oral health, and even facilitated their access to dental care for future treatment. We hope the community benefited from this experience as much as we did!”
