This symposium is intended to illustrate the connections between Civic Studies as a discipline and participatory action research (PAR) as a cyclical process of knowledge creation with, by, and for specific communities. The event convenes an interdisciplinary group of academic researchers in community development, community health, community psychology, contemporary art, education, nutrition, public policy, and sociology based in Massachusetts who will offer attendees compelling examples of how PAR constitutes a way of doing Civic Studies and strategies for incorporating PAR into research, learning, and advocacy initiatives related to civic renewal and social justice. This symposium is sponsored by Tisch College & the Tufts University College of Arts, Sciences, and Engineering’s Diversity Fund Committee.
