Building student involvement, fostering civic engagement and enhancing community service to advance public health.

Congratulations to MiJung for being selected to join the National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Students to Service (S2S) Loan Repayment Program (LRP)!

She is now a member of an elite group of healthcare providers who are dedicated to providing the highest quality clinical services to our nation’s most vulnerable populations. One in five people in the United States lives in a primary care shortage area, which means they go without essential health services, or have to travel long distances to see their primary care practitioner. Too many Americans—particularly in underserved rural and urban areas—go without checkups, preventive screenings, vaccines, routine dental work, and other care, simply because there is no one to provide care and treatment. At its heart, the NHSC is about bringing primary care to communities in need and you will help usto fulfill that mission. In order to fill this gap, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration, Bureau of Health Workforce created a program to send doctors and dentists to the least-resourced areas of the country.   It is a competitive program and honor goes to those who serve.  A big shout out to MiJung. We are proud she is bringing her skills to those in most need!

Fourth year medical and dental students who are committed in serving the underserved can apply to S2S program and those selected are awarded $120,000 scholarship towards loan repayment to work at a qualifying community health clinic for three years.
