Building student involvement, fostering civic engagement and enhancing community service to advance public health.

On June 8th, Tufts students volunteered for the Boston Healthcare for the Homeless Program by hosting a toothbrush workshop and the St. Francis House.

Evan Gallegos (D21) reflects: “Many of the SF community members were extremely interested in learning how to properly brush their teeth and use the products that were supplied to them. The community already had a good understanding of how their oral health influences their daily lives, but were still shocked to learn even more about how their oral health can impact their overall health. We also discussed their diet’s influence on their oral health. Many of the community members realized how much sugar is actually in the soft drinks they consumed; which most were unaware of the concentration prior to the workshop. They became more conscious of what they eat and how it impacts both their oral health and overall health. “
