Building student involvement, fostering civic engagement and enhancing community service to advance public health.

On April 26th, AAPHD volunteered at the Irish Immigrant Center Oral Health Initiative. Meera Ram (D19) and Keira Ginsberg (D19) conducted a Oral Health Promotions seminar at the Irish Immigrant Center (IIC) in Boston, MA. The IIC provides ESL classes as well as other services to refugees and newly immigrated individuals to the Greater Boston area.

During one the the intermediate ESL classes, Meera and Keira gave a presentation regarding oral health care, where to access care, and how dentistry works in the United States. In addition, they answered questions that the students had ranging from “How to implants work?” to “Does a night guard really help?”. Overall, the ESL and Tufts students benefited greatly by gaining knowledge about oral health and the immigrant population, respectively.
