Building student involvement, fostering civic engagement and enhancing community service to advance public health.

On May 31st, a group of D21s (Tiara Felder, Shelby Jackson, Chardai Lyde, Anthony Nutter) volunteered at  UP Academy Dorchester Health and Wellness Fair. UP Academy Charter School  is a tuition-free, college preparatory elementary and middle school in Dorchester, MA.

Anthony Nutter (D21) reflects: “I don’t think I’ve ever had so much fun at a community service event before. Having been invited by teachers at the school, we made the trip over to Dorchester for this wellness fair and it was amazing to see how enthusiastic the children were to learn about oral health. In addition to our dental jeopardy presentation, there was Zumba dancing, athletic fitness events, diet and nutrition presentations, and much more. Children were continuously coming up to our table and interacting with us, and their excitement for learning about oral health made for an incredible experience all around. This sort of health and wellness event is a fantastic way to generate enthusiasm for maintaining good oral health habits among school children and I would love to get involved with this sort of outreach again! “
