The Albert Schweitzer Fellowship Boston is a one-year interdisciplinary, mentored fellowship program focused on health-related community service and leadership development. Founded in 1992, the Boston Chapter is the oldest of the Schweitzer program sites located across the U.S. dedicated to developing a pipeline of emerging professionals who enter the workforce with the skills and commitment necessary to address unmet health needs. Since the program’s inception, Schweitzer Fellows in Boston—competitively chosen from health-focused graduate student applicants in a variety of fields—have worked tirelessly to address health disparities and the social determinants of health throughout the greater Boston and Worcester areas. Upon successful completion of the initial Fellowship year, Fellows have the opportunity to participate in an alumni network of Fellows for Life– an interdisciplinary pipeline of emerging professionals who are dedicated and skilled in meeting the health needs of underserved communities.
The application period for the 2018-2019 cohort will open on November 14, and applications are due February 12, 2018 at 5:00 PM.
Prospective Fellows should be prepared to partner with a local community agency and design a community service project that seeks to provide direct service to an underserved population. This project should focus on addressing health and/or the social determinants of health in the population served.
