Building student involvement, fostering civic engagement and enhancing community service to advance public health.

On October 1st, Korean American Dental Association (KADA) spent their Sunday morning volunteering at a Parish performing oral health screenings and promoting good oral health.

Stephen (Soon Beom) Kwon (D20) reflects: “Volunteering at St. Antoine Daveluy Parish was a meaningful experience for all of us. D18’s and D19’s provided oral health screenings and guidance for patients of all ages: from a kindergartener concerned about gaps in between her teeth to an elderly patient with no health insurance. D20’s and D21’s presented oral hygiene instructions and answered various dental-related questions from people that stopped by the booth. Children were particularly excited to learn, and it was gratifying to see them demonstrate proper brushing techniques back to us. Using plain language in Korean was a challenge that many of us faced; we aim to be better prepared for more clear and effective communication in the future. Overall, the event was a rewarding opportunity that allowed us to develop clinical skills while giving back to our community.”
