Congratulations to Andrew Lum, one of two dental students in the National Institutes of Health (NIH) 2017-2018 Medical Research Scholars Program Class (MSRP)! Andrew has taken a year off to dedicate his time to his research interests and will return next year to resume his fourth year as a member of the Class of 2019. He will be back in November to share more about what he is studying, but, in the meantime, he has given us a sneak peek into his experience:

Jason Berglund, who has returned to complete his fourth year this fall, spent his time at MRSP studying the origin of tumor-induced osteomalacia, a rare disease characterized by benign tumors that overproduce a hormone called fibroblast growth factor 23 and, ultimately, leads to bone pain, fractures, and muscle weakness.
