On July 12th at the Museum of Science, Dr. Melissa Ing organized and coordinated “Crime Boston Dental Forensics Camp” once again for the 3rd year in a row! A team of TUSDM students and faculty came to volunteer at the camp. Associate dean Emeritus Dr. Mike Goupil from UCONN had also participated, along with one of his students. Dr. Goupil is a forensic odontologist/OMFS who gave a presentation on head and neck anatomy, caries, alginate impressions, and bite mark identification. Dr. Goupil also brought some of his human specimens from forensic lab, which the kids were challenged to identify the specimens utilizing X-rays and dental charts. The dental forensics camp gained so much positive feedback that the dental group has been invited back year after year. It has been so popular at the museum and among the students that the waiting list to sign up sells out very quickly (by winter time) for the summer course!!
