Building student involvement, fostering civic engagement and enhancing community service to advance public health.

Dear TUSDM D’17 and D’18 Students,

We are conducting a research project at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM) assessing the effects on patient understanding of oral health care when using an educational booklet in the TUSDM clinics. For this phase of the study, we are conducting focus groups with TUSDM patients and student providers to gain insight on their opinions about how the booklet looks, whether it is easy to read, and if you think it would be useful to you as a provider. We are  writing to ask for your input because of your experience working in the Tufts pre-doctoral clinic and communicating with patients.

Your opinion and feedback on our booklet will help us test the effectiveness and refine it for the next phase of our study where it will be used to evaluate patient understanding of the booklet when used in the TUSDM undergrad clinic. The focus group will take place on site at TUSDM in a private room, and space is limited to 9 participants. The focus group will take approximately 90 minutes to complete. We will be audio recording the discussion for later review and analysis.

The focus group will take place at TUSDM on February 3rd at 430-6pm. If you complete the focus group, you will receive a $15.00 gift card to Target or Shaw’s/Star Market at the end of the session. If you have any questions or are interested in participating, contact co-Investigator Tuvy Phan.

Thank you in advance for your time,

Natalie Hagel, RDH, MS and Tuvy Phan, D18
