Why Volunteer?: This is will be a great opportunity to get involved at Yankee Dental whether it’s your first time volunteering/attending or you’re a seasoned veteran. You’ll be able to meet and work alongside fellow dental and dental hygiene students from other schools in the Boston area to help get information about the HIV Dental Work Group and issues regarding HIV and dentistry out to your colleagues.
What will be expected of the student volunteers?: Volunteers will be handing out information packets, talking to people who stop by the booth and assisting in collecting consumables donated to us each year for use in programs for persons with HIV in MA. All volunteers will be oriented to the procedures and protocols on site.
What is Yankee Dental Conference? This annual winter conference, the largest dental conference in New England and the fifth largest in the United States, provides the finest education and the greatest selection of courses in dentistry for the entire dental team. Innovative technology, products, and services are introduced on the exhibit floor.
What is the HIV Dental Work Group? The HIV Dental Work Group is part of the Boston Public Health Commission AIDS / HIV Ombudsperson Program, the HIV dental program which facilitates access to oral health care for persons with HIV. This will be the HIV Work Group’s 18th year of providing an educational exhibit on HIV oral health issues and infection control at Yankee. The goal of the HIV Work Group is to get accurate info to the dental profession and give students, such as you, an opportunity to also learn more about these issues.
Do I need to register for the conference? Everyone will need a badge to get in. There are some badges available for the HIV Work Group volunteers to use only during their shift. If you plan to attend Yankee before or after your HIV Work Group shift, you will need to register on your own and obtain your own badge.
What should I wear? Professional dress, please (Absolutely no jeans, t-shirts, shorts, sleeveless or low cut shirts, short skirts, open toe shoes, beach wear, etc.).
