Building student involvement, fostering civic engagement and enhancing community service to advance public health.

On September 24, 2016, Smile Squad participated in the Oak Street Fair where they provided educational opportunity for children, young adults, and families to improve their oral hygiene and home care and gave out toothbrushes, toothpaste, and stickers. Demonstrated using dental puppets and games that simulate the skills needed for good oral hygiene. Ashley Wallace (D17) reflects on her experience:

“After participating in a number of Smile Squad events, I always take home the feeling that we have made a difference in the health of these kids. We have children visiting the table with experience that varies all over the board. Some are proficient and very knowledgeable about their oral health, while others need quite a bit of help. Overall, it seems that all the visitors very extremely excited to participate, and I find that to be a very successful trip!”
