Building student involvement, fostering civic engagement and enhancing community service to advance public health.

On August 24th, 2016, Smile Squad was invited to celebrate the 11th Annual Back to School Jam in Brookline, MA. Andrew Lum (D18), Kevin Campbell (D18), Soteji Gandonu-Adeuti (D19), and Gabrielle Lieberman (D19) promoted oral health education to the members of the community. To cater to the community, Smile Squad members brought appropriate age toothbrushes and toothpastes to give out to the kids. State Representative Jeffrey Sanchez along with MCPHS University, Northeastern University, and Tufts University hosts this event over the course of three days in Jamaica Plain, Brookline, and Mission Hill to kick off the new school year. The event included food, live music and raffles for the children. Over 50 kids danced, played games and ran around collecting all the free-giveaways from the wide-variety of booths available to them; all while learning about the importance of oral hygiene, nutrition and received health screenings. It’s supposed to be a fun-filled event to provide them with a backpack filled with school supplies and positive experiences that help the kids get excited to go back to school.
