On Thursday evening, April 28th, the Tufts’ American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry (AADMD) student club hosted a presentation on “Treating Patients with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.” Dr. Steve Perlman presented to approximately 60 Tufts students and faculty. Dr. Perlman has been treating patients with both physical and intellectual disabilities for over 30 years. In 1993, Dr. Perlman founded Special Olympics Special Smiles, an oral health initiative for the athletes participating in the Special Olympics International. It now has over 215 events per year taking place in every state in the US along with 80 other countries.
