Every Monday for one hour, volunteers read books to children and teach them proper brushing and flossing techniques. The program is designed to educate preschool-age children on the importance of developing proper oral hygiene habits.
Gopi Surti (D18), Director of ASDA Smile, Share and Care, reflects on her experiences:
“As the director of the program, I am responsible for continuing the weekly Smile, Share, and Care project at Chinatown YMCA. I draft emails and signup sheets to recruit volunteers from all classes, along with sending out reminder emails to volunteers on a weekly basis. I also communicate with the head teacher and director of the the daycare on a regular basis. Something new that I decided to do this year was to give out toothbrushes and toothpaste to the children during National Children’s Dental Health Month (February). This was a very successful event and both the children and teachers were very appreciative.”
