Building student involvement, fostering civic engagement and enhancing community service to advance public health.

DSDLast week, Delta Sigma Delta volunteered to provide oral health screenings at the Irish Immigration Center in Boston. The event was in conjunction with a medical clinic (flu shots and hypertension testing) open to the members of the Irish Immigration Center. The Center reached out to TUSDM so that its members could receive oral screenings and free dental supplies. See what DSD member Michelle Ta (D17) had to say about the event below:

“Being able to volunteer a day in the community allows me to fully appreciate the importance of dentistry. People come in as your patient for just a few minutes and really hold on to and trust the recommendations you give them. This responsibility makes me want to learn more so that I can serve my patients with the best care possible. It also allowed me to connect what I had learned in clinic and previous courses to real day experiences because we were serving a different population.”
