Building student involvement, fostering civic engagement and enhancing community service to advance public health.

TUSDM was well represented at last weekend’s Oral Cancer Walk For Awareness with members from the Student National Dental Association (SNDA), the Asian Dental Organization (ADO), and the D18 Class all participating for a noble cause. All in all, over 30 Tufts Dental students and faculty participated.

D18 Community Service Chair Kimberly Meyers (D18) had this to share:

“The OCF Run/Walk for awareness was a really nice event. It balanced fun warm-ups and free food with the painful and emotional stories of oral cancer survivors.
Participating in this event has deepened my understanding of what it means to live through an oral cancer diagnosis and has reinforced what I’ve learned in class about the importance of preventative screening.”

SNDA historian Aquilla Sprewell (D17) also reflected on the event:

“The Oral Cancer Walk was a great experience. We accomplished our fundraising goal which was a big deal for us. Before the walk oral cancer survivors gave a speech which was very touching to hear. This is defiantly something that I will be interested in doing again next year.”
