Arab Dental Society (ADS)

Welcome to our page! We were founded in 2013 and Dr. Hamasat Gheddaf-Dam is our current faculty advisor.

About us:

Mission statement

To increases awareness of current and pertinent issues confronting the Middle East and North Africa, especially as it relates to oral healthcare access. To foster local and global community involvement for students of Arab origin or those who have interest in Middle Eastern history, culture, politics or social issues within both the pre-doctoral and post-doctoral dental communities at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine.

Purpose of organization

Since the onset of the Arab Spring in 2011, the region entered a state of uncertainty and continues to be at the forefront of the international media. As one nation ignited the other, state infrastructures collapsed and parts of the region are now confronted with pockets of humanitarian disaster. Access to healthcare, particularly in addressing oral health needs, continues to be severely lacking, especially within the growing number of refugee camps. In light of the situation, the association will help serve as an outlet for the discussion of these issues as well as identification of potential actions members of the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine can take to alleviate the situation and address humanitarian needs.

The association will also serve as a platform to inform the student community of events and activities held by active local organizations such as the Network of Arab-American Professionals in the Boston area, with potential collaborations.
