AADMD at Tufts has provided ongoing volunteer opportunities for students to work with patients with special needs and mental health disorders, learn from highly coveted guest speakers in the field of disability and promote a more understanding environment at TUSDM through campaigns such as “End the R word” where nearly 75 members of the Tufts Community pledged not to use the word “retarded” when referring to patients with disabilities. Please consider becoming a part of our organization or attending as a voting member.
Ongoing volunteer opportunities include the Lee School where we see children with Autism, the Arc of Brockton, the Special Olympics, inpatient Mental health and more. This year guest lectures have included treating patients with disabilities, living with Down Syndrome and working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing Populations. If you have more ideas – we’d love to hear them!
