The sun’s back out and so is Tufts Dental LGBTQA! We’ll be kicking off the warm weather by marching in the 2016 Boston Pride Parade on June 11th!
Our group’s mission is to provide a safe and open environment for LGBTQ and allied current and prospective Tufts Dental students to connect and socialize. We are working as a group to expand our community outreach and partnerships to promote oral health awareness and refer resources to LGBTQ communities, as well as providing education and resources for providers to better serve these communities.
Together, with Tufts Medical Center and the Tufts Biomedical Queer Alliance (BQA), which represents students, faculty and staff of the schools on the Tufts Health Sciences Campus, we will be marching in support and celebration of the LGBTQA community here at Tufts. Boston Special Olympics Special Smiles 2016 is right around the corner, and AADMD (American Association of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry) is excited to be taking part! This is a wonderful opportunity for us to get out in the community and do some great work for the Special Olympics athletes. There are a variety of roles that may be assigned, such as registration, molding mouth guards, and performing dental screenings. Special Smiles will be on June 4 from 9am-3pm at Harvard University. Once we have a group together, transportation will be coordinated as needed. Please read on for more details and sign up by May 24 @ 5pm to volunteer!

On Saturday, April 30th the Wang YMCA hosted Healthy Kids Day as a citywide event throughout Boston. American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) members Rhea Reen (IS17), Ritu Kular (IS17), Alisha Anand (D18), Andy Collins (D18), Tuvy Phan (D18), Oliver Giron (D18), and Tabitha Lewis (D19) joined a number of other vendors to promote health awareness and healthy lifestyle maintenance for children. At the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine booth, the club members provided toothbrushes, Tom’s toothpaste, and OHI using the dental Jeopardy game and the ever trustworthy puppet to show brushing techniques.
As soon as the event started, the Tufts students realized that they were in for more than they expected. Zumba classes began promptly at 10 AM, with some of the AAPD members joining the children and parents in the exercise and fun. The rest of the event was followed with martial arts performances, cultural and hip hop dances, and a magic show. Continue reading AAPD Participates in Healthy Kids Day at Wang YMCA
