Rosie's Place was founded in 1974 as the first women's shelter in the United States. Their mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment that helps poor and homeless women maintain their dignity, seek opportunity and find security in their lives. Today, Rosie's Place not only provides meal and shelter but also creates answers for 12,000 women a year through wide-ranging support, housing, and education services.
The Student Hispanic Dental Association, in collaboration with the Massachussets Hispanic Dental Association, participated at the St. Patrick Church Health Fair on Sunday, Decemeber 7. The organization provided screenings for 42 patients, as well as oral hygiene instruction! Check out the gallery.
Members of the Tufts Dental GLBTA volunteered at the Boston Living Center's 2014 Celebration of Life Thanksgiving Dinner on November 25, 2014. The Victory Programs’ Boston Living Center (BLC) is a nonprofit community and resource center that fosters the wellness of all HIV positive people and responds to the changing needs of the HIV/AIDS community through education, treatment information and support services.

Dental students with the South Asian Medical and Dental Association successfully screened over 50 community members at a local temple (Sikh Gurdwara)! The students performed oral cancer screenings, gave oral hygiene instructions and provided essential blood pressure monitoring for local members of the community. This is one of many screenings SAMDA will be doing throughout the school year. Keep an eye out for future screenings as SAMDA is always looking for volunteers!

The Tufts Chapter of dental fraternity Delta Sigma Delta (DSD) held a general meeting this past Friday and President Vladik Crutcher (D16) presented newly initiated members with official certificates welcoming them to the fraternity. As always with DSD meetings, there was free pizza and salad, and members had a great time getting to know each other better while enjoying a free meal.
The Student National Dental Association's annual Impressions Program was a hit yet again this year! The Impressions Program invites students from undergraduate institutions and high schools to TUSDM to expose them to the field of dentistry. The Smile Squad recently volunteered at the Give Kids a Smile Day on Saturday, November 15th at Mount Ida College in Newton, MA in partnership with the Mass Dental Society. The event provided free dental services for children such as oral screenings, cleanings, fluoride varnish, and sealants.
