ASDA Wellness Stepout Challenge @ N/A

September is ASDA Wellness Month and this month, all ASDA Chapters are invited to participate in the Wellness Stepout Challenge. Walking just 30 minutes a day is an easy way to boost personal wellness. Use your FitBit, Apple Watch, or any fitness apps to track your total steps, then submit the number to the Google Doc below. At the end of Wellness Month, the individual student with the most steps walked will win a $100 gift card and the winning chapter will win an ASDA chapter lunch!

Miles for Smiles 5K Run/Walk @ Back Cove, Portland Maine

UNE ASDA is hosting their annual Miles for Smiles 5K on September 23rd at 9am, with an Post-race gathering at Urban Farm Fermentory brewery at 11am. All proceeds will benefit ‘From the First Tooth’ which is a charity that is working on increasing oral health resources available in pediatric physician offices.  The cost is $25. If you need to spend the night before, UNE students can make accommodations for you as well. Please reach out to tuftsasda@tufts.edu to make accommodation arrangements ASAP.

NECHV @ New England Center for Homeless Veterans

oin ASDA to serve dinner for homeless veterans on Sunday, September 23rd from 3:45 pm to 5 pm.

The NECHV is an organization that is dedicated to ending homelessness among veterans. The center has apartments and dormitories for veterans to reside in overnight and they also prepare and serve meals.

For the past three years Dr. Christina Pastan, Director of Mind and Body Wellness, and Katie Dunn, Assistant Director of Predoctoral Research, have been volunteering their time to organize and participate in a yoga event to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Katie has been volunteering with the American Cancer Society and is on the committee that plans the yoga event, Vinyasa with a View at 9OFS a rooftop garden in the heart of Boston. The event takes place on Tuesday, September 25th at 5pm. Tufts will be well represented at this fundraiser with a team of TUSDM Yogis, appropriately named as such. The past team of students faculty and staff have had wonderful experiences participating in this event. For two years we were the second highest fundraising team as well as last year, D’20 Christoper Lucido was the highest fund raiser for the event.

Tufts ASDA Olympic Games @ Jaharis Courtyard

Come one, come all to Tufts Dental ASDA’s first Olympics! Come take a break from your studies and join Tufts ASDA Health & Wellness for fun and games with food! We’ll have field day type games where everyone will vie for the first place! Games will involve people to cooperate together and think through obstacles. Events will include both physical and mental exercises. Refreshments will be provided to help fuel you through these games

Smile Squad members are encouraged to sign up to volunteer at Tufts Community day at the Medford Campus! There are two shifts – 10:30am-1pm and 1:00 pm-3:15pm. You’re welcome to pick a shift or sign up for the whole day! Smile Squad members will be providing oral hygiene instructions to the children and families from Medford and Somerville area. Many community organizations and Tufts student groups will be present at the event. Lunch and refreshments will be served. In a collaborative effort with the Jonathan M. Tisch College of Civic Life Summer Fellows Program (TSF) and the Zambian Ministry of Health a group of 5 students and 2 faculty members worked with existing systems and infrastructure to provide free dental care to those in need. Come join the Global Health Student Association on October 2nd to hear about their goals, outcomes, and reflections! Lunch provided.
